Mexico – 7.27.1999

Ok, today was a really long day.  We got up at our regular hour of 7 o’clock and went to class.  It was our last day of Spanish class and he told us to keep reading and practicing Spanish or we would lose it.  It’s kind of sad that the trip is coming to a close.  It’s been really hard and a lot of work but it has helped me tremendously and I’m so grateful that I had this opportunity.  On the other hand I’m extremely ready to go home.  First and foremost I miss my girlfriend.  We always have so much fun together and when I get home we will have a week together before she goes back to Purdue.  Secondly I miss my incredible apartment and huge double bed.  Other things I miss are my computer and car.  Also, restaurants and going to the Lennox with my girlfriend.

However, I still have a week and a half to go here in Mexico and I plan to enjoy it.  This Friday we have a midterm though and that is always stressful.  Tomorrow we are going to the Modelo Brewing Company in Mexico city and that should be pretty fun.  Then this weekend the Farm Boys, Jen and I are going to Acapulco.  I cannot wait for that.  We don’t have much time there though since we arrive late Friday and leave Sunday.  I’m still glad we have the opportunity to go though.  Then next week is one midterm and preparing our group project.  Hopefully the last week goes fast since there is nothing more to look forward to besides going home.

Today did have some excitement though.  At the end of class we had a group discussion and Maria said she wanted to apologize for being late the other day on the bus.  Then this made Tom open his mouth and say all the facts should be known before anyone complained about being late.  This of course was referring to me but I decided to keep my mouth shut.  Then Tom decides to open his mouth again and I finally had to respond.  I tried to explain my view but Tom kept interrupting me and raised his voice.  This really pissed me off and made me raise mine.  When I finally got to plead my case he understood what I said and finally shut up.  It’s amazing how he can criticize me now in hindsight when he was grumbling before but never had the balls to say anything about it.  It really steams me how he thinks he knows everything and is going to yell at me.  I still believe I am/was in the right and I”m not going to take any B.S. especially from a putz like Tom.

Anywho, after class ended Hisam and I went doing interviews for about three hours.  I really like doing this project and actually seeing/experiencing the things we learn about in class.  My brain was pretty much fried though since I had to keep interpreting English to Spanish and vice-versa.  It is a good practice though but I need to learn some more vocabulary.  I can’t wait to take my next class “Contrasting English and Spanish.”

Well, tonight the Mexican guys came back to take us to a so called “party” which means us and them.  No one wanted to go and we found an out when they didn’t show up at the agreed upon time and came an hour and a half late.  I just told them we were ready at 9 (which we really weren’t) and now it was too late.  They kept trying to set something else up at a future date but I said we were pretty busy.  We might go for beers tonight though.  I don’t know.
