2019 – Ohio

It is July 1st and I’m at the airport. I’m leaving a day early due to flying standby and tomorrow is full. However, I feel as though it has been enough time here and I’m ready to go home.

On Friday I saw my good friends and we met at Byrne’s Pub. It was Ross, Ryan, Jason Moine, Jason Amicon and Jimmy Edwards. On Saturday I hung out with my college Pete and his daughter Lauren. Our first stop was to Ohio State and we visited the Oval and Student Union. After that it was to Schmidt’s in German Village and then Comfest. Comfest is a bunch of hippies and something you could find in San Francisco. Then they left to go take a nap and to the concert. I sat on the porch with my Mom and Dad and had wine. I spoke about this in the previous post.

Sunday it was a bike ride around Grandview. I stopped off at Stauf’s for an ice mocha and Donatos for a pizza. The nostalgia just wasn’t hitting me this time. I guess it is because I’m older, it was hot and so much has changed. Trips back to Ohio are not the trips down memory lane that they’ve been in the past. We also took a trip to the Grandview pool and for the first time I did a flip to a dive off the high board. I was proud of myself!

In the evening it was to the Grandview Cafe for beers with Uncle Bob and Joe. That was a great time. We spoke a bit about investing and I learned that Joe and I know more about it then my Dad and Uncle Bob. My Dad told me not to be a stock picker but that is exactly what I want to be! They are old school and couldn’t keep up with the stuff Joe and I were talking about. Times change and it was interesting to realize that we were now more advanced when it came to the stock market.

In other accomplishments I took control of the Google Mesh wifi so I could figure out what was going on with the Ring doorbell and why it wouldn’t work. It took about an hour but I got it figured out and working which I’m very happy about.

On Monday it was up early to go golfing at Wilson Road and then meet my Uncle Bob for golf at Raymond Memorial. Again, the nostalgia was pretty much nonexistent. Perhaps it was due to all the beer I drank but I just wasn’t feeling it at all. My golf game was pretty good, in fact the best it has been in a while. I had two or three birdies and plenty of pars.

Another thing I realized about coming home is that I fit in much better in San Francisco. My strengths are there and it is there that I belong. Nobody here cares about karate, understands anything about Asia, or the wider world in general and seems very conformist. I have the ability to succeed more in San Francisco than I do in Ohio. I’m very glad I live in the Bay Area and am happy to return home.

Well, again, I did drink plenty of beer and my mind just isn’t very sharp at the moment so I’m going to wrap this post up.
