Journal Entry – 9.14.2017

It is 1:21 PM on Thursday September 14th, 2017.  It is a beautiful day with everything turning fresh and green with the rain a few days ago.  There is a little wind and the temperature is cool which makes it feel more like fall.

I’m finally getting the roof repaired and that helps put my mind at ease.  The repair person is working on it now and I’ll be glad when it is done especially since we’re starting to get rain.  Then at the end of the month the painting crew will be here and hopefully I’ll be done with house maintenance for a while.

This morning my son Kai told me he would be bored if not allowed to watch TV or do the iPad.  My response was that it is good to be bored sometimes:  you can daydream, imagine things and generally be creative without having something always entertaining you all the time. This then made me think about how much information we’re bombarded with on a daily basis.  Pings, notifications, e-mails, scam calls and so on are not progress as much as Silicon Valley would like to make us think so.  It is insanity as all this information creates a very chaotic mind.

I need to take my own advice to my son and put down the phone, not always refer to it when I have nothing to do.  My mind is a mess with all this information and I need to slow down, meditate, appreciate the world around me.  Society these days is very hectic with all these interruptions having no more ultimate purpose than to separate you from more of your money.

Then I began to think about the USA as a whole.  The business of America is business!  It took me a long time to realize that:  everything we’re engaged in, wars, entertainment, politics is simply to further business interests and those interests are ultimately the bottom line no matter how much they try to spin it otherwise.  Patriotism has become a smokescreen, as though we’re a part of something when in reality I’ve come to see that it is corporations who really run the show.   Yes, business interests have created comfortable lives for the citizens but it has also created a monster in that our ultimate purpose is to acquire more and more is never enough.

And so, I’ve deleted most of the social apps off my phone and trying very hard to simplify.  Life isn’t as enjoyable when the mind is constantly cluttered with notifications and constantly trying to fend off assaults on my finances.  It has become so bad that I not only do not answer the phone anymore unless I know who it is from, but now not even the door if I’m not expecting a visit and don’t know who it is. Wouldn’t that seem absurd to someone even 20 years ago??

Just this past week I got the scam where they try and record your voice saying yes AND a call telling me the IRS was going to file a lawsuit and then that it has if I didn’t call some scam number.  Add that to the fact that Equifax just got hacked and now criminals have the private information on MILLIONS of Americans.  And what is the fix to this?  Well sign up for yet another service that provides security which Equifax should have had in place in the beginning!  That reminds me of Bank of American’s “Theft Protection Service.”  Should the bank be protecting my account in the first place??  Thank goodness I don’t use Wells Fargo who opens up accounts without permission and charges fees for it!  We always have to be on our guard now-days and it seems things will only get worse.

These examples clearly show that the business of America is indeed business and now bordering on what was previously considered criminal.  We’ll see IF the politicians hold Wells Fargo accountable or not.

Well, those are my ramblings for today.
