It baffles me to see what is going on with the Religious Right in the United States at the moment. More specifically, the inclusion of “Intelligent Design” in the High School classrooms. This is a direct affront to science and reason. It is almost as if the United States is sinking into a new “Dark Age,” where superstition and magic take the place of logic and reason. From a historical standpoint, it seems Religion has done enough to impede the progress of humanity. Was it not the Church who punished Gallileo for his idea that the Earth was not the center of the universe? Do hardcore Christians not claim that the earth and the universe began 5,000 years ago? Some even more extreme fundamentialists say that Dinosaur bones were put there by the devil!
The pendulum always swings back and forth doesn’t it?
Living abroad is an excellent education and I firmly believe it makes one smarter…..
But the smarter I get, the more I realize I don’t know much.
There are many things I cannot understand and when I need to realize this, I simply need to step into a college physics, engineering classroom. Then I’m reminded about how little I know.
But it amazes me that the Christians claim to know the answer to the most difficult question humanity has ever conceived which is ,,, who are we,, what is our purpose etc..
Then they say it’s just faith.. You gotta have faith. So basically they just believe because they are told to buy some authority figure.
If you don’t know the answer then just take a damn good guess and support it with all your might. So if I don’t know the answer to two plus two and firmly believe it is six because someone told me to,,, it is the same thing. Science can prove that the answer is actually four,,, but here will be a large portion of humanity who will still believe the answer is six because
a.) it’s what they and all their community have always believed.
b.) They put their trust in authority figures who told them so.
They will launch a crusade that we should keep our minds open to other possible answers for two plus two just because a large portion of the populace is unable to
It is easy to use logic to disprove many Christian beliefs, yet it is also another thing to realize we have only reached a certain point in evolution and are just a few millenia out of the ape stage. We are now able to reason,,, but it’s awsome to think how simple creatures we will seem thousands of years from now should we keep evolving and not kill ourselves.
There will be theories and answers that we cannot comprehend at this stage and are left to be discovered.
The Christian laughs at other religious with their silly customs and rights / traditions,,, yet they are not able to see themselves and how they appear. They have a ceremony where they eat the flesh of a person and drink blood… They are cannibals.. But then they say it’s only symbolic…. Well what if I symbolically eat my neighbor for dinner? Will they say it’s unacceptable because my neighbor is not God? The argument keeps on getting more ridiculous.
